What is the Knitting Academy? It is a program developed to help you take your knitting to the next level. You will learn new skills; ways to perfect your technique and finished objects; build your confidence to tackle more challenging projects or simply get your knit-spiration on. In the Knitting Academy, we will cover topics that will improve and enrich your knitting. Your Academy professor is Jenna. With more than 30 years knitting experience she loves to encourage others to be creative with fiber. Her goal is to release more fearless knitters into the world. How it works: each session in The Knitting Academy is intended to be a standalone session so if every session is not for you, just pick and choose the ones that interest you the most. Each session is held on the 2nd Sunday of every month from 11 am to noon. (Dates and times, particularly those farther out, are subject to change).

Class Policies

Center of the Yarniverse appreciates you for your interest in taking one of our classes.

A class will proceed with a minimum of 3 students, and attendance will be capped at 6 or 7 students (depending on the class). To ensure that a class will proceed, please sign up as soon as possible.

Registration

To sign up for a class, register online, call us at (804)362-7800 or sign up in the store. If you are interested in a class that is full, we will place you on the waitlist. Waitlisted registrants will be contacted in the order they were received. Unless otherwise stated in the class description, all students are expected to arrive to the first class on time and with supplies ready to go. If you have yarn that needs to be wound, it should be done prior to the first class.

Payment
Payment for class should be made at the time you sign up. If you call we will collect payment over the phone.

Student Supply Discount

Center of the Yarniverse is happy to offer a discount of 10% off yarn for classes (discount does not apply to private lessons). It is expected that the yarn purchased is the weight and quantity that applies to the class project. Other supplies, to include needles and patterns, are exempt from the discount unless otherwise stated.

Cancellation/Rescheduling Policy

If the minimum for a class is not met, your payment will be refunded. Determining whether or not a class will proceed due to low attendance will be determined by the instructor and/or the shop.

If inclement weather or reasons beyond the shop's control affect a particular class date, the class will be rescheduled.

A registered student may cancel a class 10 days prior to the first class and receive a full refund. If you must cancel less than 10 days prior, you will receive a refund if your slot is taken by a waitlisted registrant. Every effort will be made to assist anyone in this situation to receive a refund.

Private Lessons

We will make every attempt to assist with basic knitting troubles during regular shop hours; however, the assistance is based on staff availability and is on a case by case basis. Our instructors do offer private lessons for $35/hour (or $50/hour for 2 people). Scheduling is based on the instructor’s schedule and availability. It is possible that the instruction may occur when the shop is traditionally closed. (Class discounts do not apply to private lessons.)
