Emily Nicolaides is a Cypriot-American artist who specializes in contemporary weaving. In 2013, she graduated with a Bachelor of Art and Art History from the University of Mary Washington. After graduation, Emily was awarded several scholarships to attend weaving and fiber art workshops at schools including Penland School of Craft and Arrowmont School of Arts and Crafts. She was also selected for the American Tapestry Alliances mentorship program where she studied shaped tapestry weaving. After focusing on fiber art education for eight years, Emily began building a professional career in the arts through numerous exhibitions in the US and Europe, as well as participating in the Pentaculum residency in 2019 and the Penland Winter residency in 2020.
In 2021, Emily moved to Limassol, Cyprus to be with her family. She set up a studio in her late Pappou?s office where she wrote the first and only book on circular weaving. The book is based on Emily?s extensive research and development of round weaving. Amazing Circular Weaving is now available from Abrams Publishing and Search Press Books.
