AMIGURUMI SKILLS TO BE TAUGHT:
pattern reading
magic loop
crocheting in a spiral
working with multiples of six
using stitch markers to keep track of your rounds (which are actually spirals)
increasing stitches
invisibly decreasing stitches
shaping feet and learn to switch between working in rounds and flat work
working with safety eyes
adding facial expressions (smirks, eyebrows, eyelids, frowns)
stuffing your amigurumi without lumps
stitching together two- and three-dimensional pieces
Materials:
Yarn: 1 skein of light worsted weight (for example, Uptown Worsted). You can use
whatever color your heart desires, solid colors, stripes, self-patterned.
You will also need a contrasting color like white or black for the nose, the horns and for the feet/hands if you
choose to do so.
Hook: size D (3.25mm) hook (The hook should be about 2 sizes smaller than
the one recommended on the label of your yarn)
Suggested safety eye size - 12mm
Blunt tip sewing needle
A locking stitch marker (a paper clip will also do)
A few pins to secure your pieces while sewing them together
Scissors
Pencil or pen to scribble notes on your pattern
Food for thought:
The thicker your yarn the bigger your amigurumi will be, also, the thicker the yarn, the more will be needed to complete the project.
(The hook should be about 2 sizes smaller than the one recommended on the label of your yarn)

Instructor: | Ivonne Schuh |
Instructor Bio: | Hi there, my name is Ivonne and I am a German expat currently living in Mechanicsville, VA. I have been knitting and crocheting since I was a child, taught by many talented women in my family and in school. I enjoy knitting and crocheting because I love to create. I am passionate about all the fiber arts but my favorite "child" is definitely amigurumi, which is the Japanese word for "crochet doll/creature". I love creating colorful, happy one-of-a-kind items because the world is already crowded with gray and dull off-the-conveyor-belt-monotony. I would love to share my knowledge with you. Let's make something vibrant and unique! |
